Event Navigation

Do you enjoy art? Do you enjoy coding? What can you create when you put them together? Students in the Creative Coding Collective at NC State have explored the depths of this combination and found quite a lot! The club will be showcasing selected pieces they have coded this semester that include digital imagery, animated graphics, music compositions, and virtual reality experiences. During the first hour of the event (6:00-7:00pm) each creator will present their piece and provide background on their motivation and methods. From 7:00-9:00pm all pieces will be displayed as a gallery in the Teaching and Visualization Lab for drop-in viewing and discussion with the creators.

The Creative Coding Collective is a club for artists, regardless of technical experience, who want to learn how to use code to create art in a friendly, collaborative environment. The club focuses on creating basic visual, audio, and textual art in a diverse group with varying expertise and skill levels. The main coding languages used in the group are the p5.js Javascript library and the Processing language, though any member can use the programming language of their choice.

This event is presented in collaboration with the Code+Art program at the NCSU Libraries. The Code+Art program was launched in 2014 to promote student and faculty engagement with creative coding through workshops, meetups, speaking events, contests, and residencies. Code+Art brings together creative and computational thinking to bring digital art to the library’s visualization spaces.
